DMP lifting permit turnarounds

The Department of Mines and Petroleum says it has dramatically improved its exploration approvals process.

The Western Australian government agency announced that it has been able to approve 70% of mining exploration applications in less than 30 days.

This turnaround rate was reached despite the applications doubling in number from 300 in the first quarter of last year to close to 600 for the first quarter of 2010.

According to Mines and Petroleum minister Norman Moore, this was due to the current State Government streamlining approvals process, after it came under pressure from the industry due to long lead times on applications.
