The Digger Deeper Conference, held in Brisbane on Wednesday, was popular with junior explorers and the scientific community this year, Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson told MINING DAILY.
“The Bligh Government is opening up the state for exploration because we know that today’s exploration, equals tomorrow’s jobs,” he said.
“We’re looking beyond the horizon and planning for the future by encouraging more exploration and more explorers to Queensland.”
“Mining is a very important industry to Queensland. It’s a key economic driver of the state’s strong economy and that’s why I’ve asked my Department to keep a close eye on the mining industry in light of the current global economic crisis.
According to Wilson, the effects of the global financial crisis are being felt across the board, leaving no-one immune.
“These are challenging times for everyone. Queensland and its mining industry are not alone. We will continue to work in partnership with the major mining companies and unions and we will face these challenges together. Mining is one of the most important industries for Queensland’s long term future.
The Digging Deeper Conference showcased a lot of the regions latest mapping techniques and mapping data.
