Delta begins two new coal longwall systems in Queensland

Delta SBD has begun longwall surface builds at BMA's Broadmeadow mine and Rio Tinto's Kestral mine expansion.

The work at Rio is being undertaken for Caterpillar, which supplies the longwall to Rio.

Stephen Bizzaca, Delta's CEO, stated that "both these projects are significant milestones for Delta as the company continues to develop relationships with BMA, Cat, and Rio Tinto".

He added that as BMA's longwall is a top coal version, it will give the company an advantage.

Phase One of the project is surface assembly of the complete longwall systems, which will be used by mine operators to train their personnel on its operation.

Phase two will see the company dismantle the equipment, then transport and install it down at the longwall.

The second phase of the Broadmeadow mine project will be carried out in the second quarter of next year, while Rio's Kestral project will occur at the end of Q3 next year.

It comes after their successful installation of longwall equipment at Narrabri.
