The former head of Fortescue’s Pilbara iron ore operations, David Woodall, has taken up with Newcrest mining.
Woodall has been appointed as the new executive general manager for Newcrest’s international operations, which includes the Lihir mine, Indonesia, and its Ivory Coast operations, according to Newcrest.
The move is a horizontal one for Woodall, after he left Fortescue after only a year in the role as its Pilbara iron ore director.
His appointment to Newcrest comes as the miner makes a raft of changes at the top as Sandeep Biswas moves from the role of executive director to that of managing director and CEO.
Woodall will replace Brett Fletcher, who will step down later this month.
The current EGM for commercial and West African operation, Lawrie Conway, will also leave the company at the end of next month.
