Dartbrook coal mine attracting buyer interest

Anglo American says there are several parties interested in purchasing Dartbrook coal mine.

The underground mine located near Muswellbrook has been in care and maintenance since 2006/2007.

Anglo revealed the mine was up for sale during an investor presentation in early December.

However Chief of Anglo’s coal business Seamus French said it had buyers interested in the project for some time, ABC reported.

"Had a few interested parties, we had it actually even before the announcement," French said.

French said the mine was an attractive option because all the infrastructure to run it was already in place.

"It's got a reasonable space of close to a billion tonne," he said.

"It's got all the established infrastructure, the washing plant, the rail loop, the whole things in place already.

French said the mine would be best run as an open cut operation and said this is what was attracting interest.

Anglo’s Callide mine is also for sale.
