AngloGold Ashanti CEO Mark Cutifani is reportedly close to being snapped up for Anglo American's open CEO position.
The spot has been open since October when current Anglo American chief, Cynthia Carroll, announced her departure.
Cutifani was originally slated amongst the contenders for the job back in November, along with BHP CFO Alex Vanselow, former Barrick head Aaron Regent, and Anglo''s platinum business chief Chris Griffiths.
Two sources familiar with the situation told Reuters that Australian Cutifani is the front runner for the job, and has been successfully running AngloGold Ashanti which was originally spun out of Anglo American's gold assets.
If he were to step into the position Cutifani would be only the second non-South African to head the company, following the U.S. born Carroll.
