Queensland copper producer Cudeco has awarded Andy’s Earthmovers (Asia Pacific) a contract to provide mining services at its Rocklands copper mine.
Located around 15km west of Cloncurry, the overall project has 11 ore bodies, which contain high grades of copper.
The mining contract is for the resumption of Stage 1 of the Rocklands copper mine.
It is an initial Phase-1, six-month fixed contract for the first part of mining of the Las Minerale Stage-2 pit. Phase 1 involves mining around 1.2Mt of ore and 3.8Mt of waste from the Las Minerale pit.
Cudeco may award Phase 2 of the mining contract to Andy’s Earthworks at any time within the six-month period, which involves mining the remainder of the Las Minerale, Rocklands South, Rocklands South extended and Rainden pits.
Andy’s Earthmovers will provide a mining fleet; manning and supervision; load and haul services; drill and blast services; fleet and road maintenance; in-pit dewatering; and waste dump rehabilitation.
“We welcome this opportunity to have Andy’s Earthmovers as partner with the CuDeco team,” Cudeco said in a statement.
The company plans to begin mining in mid-March.
