Court probes iron ore bid

The Land Court will provide recommendations regarding a bid to mine manganese ore in Central Queensland.

The Land Court will provide recommendations regarding a bid to mine manganese ore in Central Queensland.

Following Genesis Resources’ application for a mining lease close to Gladstone, its Regional Council raised concerns with the mining registrar.

The council said that while there are a number of historical manganese iron ore mines in the area, significant amounts of Genesis’ 32 hectare application would cover urban and residential locations.

According to the ABC, a spokeswoman from the DEEDI stated that as two objections had been received, the Land Court will carry out a hearing into the matter.
