CORRECTION: Australian Mining apologies for a story it published earlier this week stating that the Mt Lyell mine was to reopen.
This is not the case, and was a mispublishing of an article from earlier.
Speaking to Copper Mines of Tasmania, they explained the current situation at the site.
"CMT is currently undertaking a range of work programs on the Mt Lyell site, employing some 90 people," CMT projects and site manager Jared DeRoss explained.
Underground exploration drilling has been ongoing since April 2014 to further delineate mineral resources.
"CMT is also continuing the rehabilitation of the collapsed ventilation tunnel and has implemented a care and maintenance program because it remains positive about the future and a potential resumption of operations."
By mid October the rehabilitation of the ventilation will be complete, bringing the total number of workers needed on site to 40.
The miner has also scheduled additional exploration projects around the lease.
