Conveyor fault halts production at Cadia Valley

Newcrest has halted production at its Ridgeway mine in New South Wales following a conveyor fault earlier this week.

In a statement yesterday the company said the shutdown would be temporary and repairs were underway to fix the problem.

"Damage to the conveyor has been minimised but repairs to the damaged section, which is located at the top of the conveyor near the portal, will take up to 15 days."

The company said while production was on hold lower quality stockpile material would replace the mine's primary ore feed.

It said depending on repair time it estimated the impact on production to hit 5,000 to 10,000 ounces of gold and around 100 to 200 tonnes of copper.

Newcrest said there was no change to its annual production guidance for the Cadia Valley operations and operation at the Cadia processing plant had not been impacted.
