Contractors jobs at risk

Hundreds of contractors jobs are at risk as AE&E Australia is placed into administration.

It is following in the footsteps of its Austrian parent company, which was placed into administration last month.

The Australian company currently has debts of more than $40 million.

BRI Ferrier has been appointed as administrator.

AE&E Australia is builder of the $500 million Worsley Alumina refinery, employing 530 staff onsite as well as an additional 130 at its Sydney offices.

The alumina facility is approximately 75% complete, and stakeholder meetings are to be held to decide the future and possible completion of the plant.

This latest news come on the back of CITIC Pacific cancelling its agreements with the contractor last month at its Sino Iron Ore mine in the Pilbara.
