A contractor died suddenly on BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance Daunia mine near Moranbah in Queensland yesterday.
Police attended the site yesterday morning and have told Australian Mining the person died of natural causes and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A BMA spokesperson told Australian Mining the death was a result of a non work-related incident.
“BMA extends its sympathies to employee’s family, friends and work colleagues during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.
Last week it was reported BMA had pulled its first load of coal out of the new mine.
Located 150 kilometres south west of Mackay, the $1.5 billion mine began operating in March and will continue to ramp up operations this year as it works towards hitting an annual 4.5 million tonne target.
