The death of a contractor at OZ Minerals’ Prominent Hill site in South Australia has forced the company temporarily shut down operations.
The worker died in a single light vehicle accident about 35 km from the Prominent Hill gold and copper mine site. The construction supervisor was working on the development of the borefield, supplying water for the processing facilities some 45 km from the mine.
According to OZ Minerals, police arrived at the site to begin investigations into the accident.
“Worksafe SA has also been notified and will be on site to carry out their investigations,” a spokesperson from Oz Minerals said.
“Management will, of course, be cooperating fully with authorities in these investigations.”
All activities on site were shut down for half a day as a mark of respect for the worker.
Currently, OZ Minerals senior management are on site to brief staff and conduct further accident investigations.
