Contractor dies at CSG work site in Queensland

A worker has been killed at Origin Energy’s Reedy Creek work site.

Local media reports the 29-year-old-man died as a result of crush injuries at about 8:45am yesterday.

The man was an employee of WDS Limited, a contracting company undertaking pipeline gathering work for Origin on behalf of Australia Pacific LNG which is building a new LNG facility on Curtis Island.

WDS Limited CEO Terry Chapman said that the company was shocked and saddened to learn of the fatality.

“Nothing is more important to WDS than the safety of its workers and we will work with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland to thoroughly investigate all aspects of this tragic event,” Chapman said.

“In the meantime our thoughts are with the employee’s family and we will do everything we can to provide them with support at this difficult time.”

Construction activities in the immediate vicinity of the incident have been suspended and WDS is offering counselling to its employees on site.
