As Australia’s resource sector continues to boom, Perth-based engineering, drafting and design specialists PDC Consultants has again boosted its technical capacity by acquiring leading pipework detailing business Piper Engineering.
PDC Consultants uses 3D modelling technology to create intelligent 3D models of a project to life-like accuracy.
Clients such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Alcoa, Newcrest and Woodside utilise PDC to provide design and layouts for each phase of a project’s design development to minimise construction error, saving time and money, according to the company.
PDC incorporated its strengthened piping expertise to assist Fortescue Metals Group with the design detailing of its Cloud Break Iron Ore Handling facility in WA’s Pilbara region.
PDC managing director Martyn Weir said acquiring Piper meant the company had merged its 3D modelling technology with specialist pipework detailing expertise in order to offer a fully integrated service that incorporates the key components during the design of a project.
“Piper specialises in all aspects of pipework detail, design and drafting, complementing our own expertise in heavy mechanical equipment, conveyors and structures, and enabling us to better service the growing oil and gas industry.
“PDC’s 3D modelling technology is the most advanced of its kind and with companies feeling increasing pressure to advance projects in ever-tightening timeframes, our objective is to use this technology and experience to assist clients during the design phase and to achieve zero rework during construction,” Weir said.
