Nucrush’s good neighbour program has been rewarded with the company named as a finalist in the 5th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.
The program is used to facilitate long-term relationships between the Company, the surrounding communities, its customers and its staff.
Through the program, the company established a Community Fund with the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley and offered local school students in Grade 5 and 6 a morning of tree planting in alliance with the Rotary, Coomera River Catchment Group and EnviroComm Australia.
During 2007/2008, the Rotary community fund supported the Oxenford ANZAC Day service, Community Christmas in the Park, a Christmas party at the Oxenford & Coomera Community Youth Centre, a number of families and individual community members with basic needs and sponsorship of various sporting clubs including Hope Island Cricket Club and Coomera Crushes Rugby League Club.
The Good Neighbour Program was also responsible for Oxenford Quarry opening its doors to the community to help further educate about its operations including the environmentally friendly way many of the proceedures are run.
Throughout the day, bus tours were conducted every 30 minutes in and around the quarry and pit, with commentary to explain the type of rock onsite; the crushing process and plant; the concrete plant and its environmental initiatives.
The program has effectively helped the company change from a closed door operation to an open house that welcomes the community to come, participate and learn.
