Coal loaders try to outrace Yasi

Coal ships may try to load up and move out at the Abbot Point Coal terminal before tropical cyclone Yasi hits.

Queensland State transport minister Rachel Nolan said that coal ports and rail managed to avoid damage from cyclone Anthony last night, and that there may be attempts to load coal again before ships head out to sea.

"So far things are in hand but we do remain very concerned about the next very serious cyclone that’s on its way," she said.

This comes after both the Hay Point and Abbot Point coal terminals were closed as cyclone Anthony bore down last night.
