Coal gas experts quizzed

A public meeting in Kingaroy will see local residents grill underground coal gasification (UGC) experts on water contamination

A public meeting in Kingaroy will see local residents grill underground coal gasification (UGC) experts on water contamination.

The meeting in Southern Queensland will see the panel quizzed on their independence from the State Government, following the shut down of Cougar Energy’s coal seam gas plant after alleged water contamination.

The panel consists of three members who will make recommendations to the State Government on whether the plant should be shut down, and commercial coal seam gas exploration halted
Kingaroy mayor, David Carter, stated that some residents doubt the panel’s independence.

“The residents have got some concerns about the panel – why they’ve been appointed and how they’ve been appointed and what they’re actually going to do to assess the projects,” Carter told the ABC.
