CMEC win US$135m Astron mineral sands contract

Astron Corporation has awarded China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) the EPC contract for its Astron Donald mineral sands processing plant.

The contract, valued at US$135 million, includes all the design, procurement, civil engineering and construction, installation, training, commissioning, technical services, and other works for the project’s mining unit plant and wet concentration plant.

However, the contract is subject to a number of conditions, including an insurance application with Sinosure being approved and the premium paid; Astron subsidiary Donald Mineral Sands financing 15 per cent of the costs of the project, approximately US$18 million; and Donald acquiring all regulatory approvals.

The two groups have 10 months to satisfy these conditions, although there is an option to extend this period up to 12 months.
