CIMIC joins BHP, Rio on LinkedIn top companies list

Thiess is part of the CIMIC Group

CIMIC Group is the first of several mining and related services companies that have been named in LinkedIn’s 2018 Top Companies list for Australia.

LinkedIn’s Top Companies list is based on actions taken by its more than 500 million members. The social networking site reviews three main pillars: interest in a company’s jobs, interest in a company’s brand and employees, and employee retention.

Major miners BHP (13th) and Rio Tinto (19) made the list’s top 20. However, it was global contractor CIMIC Group that led all mining-related companies in sixth place.

CIMIC, the parent company of mining contractors Thiess and Sedgman, improved by one spot on its 2017 ranking. It was also the first non-banking or professional services company to be ranked.

Michael Wright, CIMIC chief executive officer, said working at one of the group’s companies was incredibly rewarding.

“Whether you’re on a project, or working in an office team that supports project delivery, it’s a challenging and exciting environment, as everyone pursues the same goals: delivering for our clients, and shaping our business for the future,” Wright said.

“The CIMIC Group has a lot to offer our people and it’s great to be recognised in this way. We are always seeking to build on the benefits we offer, and make sure our culture is inclusive and allows our people to grow to their full potential.”

PwC, Commonwealth Bank, Deloitte, KPMG and Westpac were the five companies ranked ahead of CIMIC.

Another leading mining services company, Downer EDI, secured 12th spot, while Wesfarmers, which owns mining assets, was 22nd. Engineering companies — Aurecon (23) and Laing O’Rourke (25) — also snuck onto the list.
