Secretary of the West Australian division of the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), Kevin Reynolds, has announced his retirement.
After nearly forty years in the union Reynolds will officially stand down at Christmas, handing leadership to the CFMEU’s occupational health and safety Mick Buchan.
According to The West, assistant secretary Joe McDonald was passed over as both Reynolds and he were getting too old to run the union and it was time to let a young person take control.
Reynolds went on to say that McDonald was served better at the work face than in an administrative position.
McDonald was arrested in early February while investigating sham contracting arrangements, where workers were not being paid correctly on site.
