New Century Resources has posted another quarter of record production at the Century restart operation in Queensland, delivering 26,171 tonnes of zinc metal.
This 28 per cent increase in the September quarter continues the company’s steady improvement in 2019, having delivered 20,450 tonnes in the June quarter and 18,170 tonnes in the March quarter.
New Century’s cash costs decreased by 18 per cent, continuing its average of 15 per cent since operations began.
The company’s focus for the quarter was delivering an upgraded cleaner circuit within the processing plant, removing bottlenecks to continue recovery improvement and increase production.
Its upgrade of the cleaner circuit was delivered on schedule and budget in mid-August, which boosted operational performance for the tail-end of the September quarter.
The upgraded circuit helped New Century deliver 10,013 tonnes of zinc metal at an average recovery of 52 per cent zinc, against the overall quarterly average of 48 per cent.
New Century experienced a significant reduction in variability since this upgrade, with more than 50 per cent zinc recovery achieved for over 30 consecutive days.
It also helped to continue concentrate quality improvement, with zinc grade increasing to a 49 per cent quarterly average, compared with June’s 48.1 per cent average.
New Century is aiming for another big quarter to finish 2019, hoping to hit its existing December production forecast of 27,000 tonnes to 33,000 tonnes.
