Century mine gets the ‘blues’

In an effort to raise awareness about prostate cancer, Oz Minerals’ Century Mine has painted one of its 830E Komatsu trucks blue.

In October Century organised several functions to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, and in November its attention has turned to prostate cancer.

The blue truck mirrors the Oz Minerals truck already painted pink for breast cancer.

“We think it is the first time one has been painted blue to raise awareness of men’ s health issues like prostate cancer and depression,” Century Mine’s safety, health and environmental manager John Milsom said.

Working in an isolated area 1220 km from Townsville, the miners can find it difficult to make time for regular medical check-ups.

“At Century we recognise that many men don’t like talking about their health and we are all guilty of avoiding check-ups,” Milsom said.

“The painted trucks are a gentle reminder that being aware of your own wellbeing and making time for check-ups when we are back in town are important parts of staying fit and healthy.”
