Caterpillar, Guardhat to create wearables for monitoring

Caterpillar has joined forces with Guardhat to develop wearables that increase protection for workers.

The system, called Cat Connected Worker, will deliver event-based monitoring and mapping.

It will provide precise location of all workers to the monitoring system, and allow communication between individuals, teams and sites.

This will allow for a quicker response if an incident occurs, according to Cat MineStar Solutions marketing manager Bill Dears.

Guardhat chief operating officer Indranil Roychoudhury added: “Our safety monitoring and data analysis system is a multi-product, feature-packed intelligent safety and productivity system that integrates cutting edge wearable technology and advanced proprietary software.

“It is equipped to detect, alert and help prevent industrial work-related incidents, and it is designed to collect and analyse data to support and improve worker safety and productivity programs.”

Cat dealers will support Connected Worker as part of Cat MineStar globally.

The system is available for surface mining operations of all types thanks to its Wi-Fi and cellular compatibility.

The devices connected in the Guardhat line include hard hats, personal tags, asset tags and smartphones.
