Brown coal dewatering trials a success

Mantle Mining has announced the successful dewatering transformation of a bulk brown coal sample.

The miner carried out a continuous hydro-thermal dewatering (CHTD) bulk trial on its Bacchus Marsh brown coal.

Lab tests showed that the decarboxylation, or coal transformation releasing moisture successfully occurred.

While the original ROM coal feed moisture content sat at around 56.7%, the CHTD combined with subsequent secondary drying and pressing reduced the sample to a moisture content of 9.5%.

Mantle has significant brown coal assets.
