The rigger killed at the Boggabri coal mine on Wednesday has been identified as Mark Galton.
Aged in his early 50s, Galton was a keen surfer and
president of the Ulladulla Boardriders Club.
NSW Trade and Investment’s mine safety commission are
investigating the accident.
The accident occurred at the Boggabri Coal Expansion Project,
and involved staff of the construction contractor Thiess Sedgeman Joint
Reports at this stage are varied, but it seems Galton was
working in an EWP basket about 15m off the ground when he was struck by a steel
Galton suffered critical injuries to his head and neck, and
was alive when paramedics arrived on the scene.
CPR was performed, however Galton went into traumatic
cardiac arrest and died at the scene.
