TerraCom has announced a further extension to the Blair Athol mine life following increased coal resources.

The Queensland mine was bought by TerraCom for $1 in July last year and received a two-year extension in November; taking it up to a seven-year mine life.

Following further work at the site, TerraCom and Xenith Consulting were able to upgrade the total Blair Athol mine JORC Reserves to 15.6mt and increase the JORC measured resources to 21.9mt.

The detailed assessment of all boreholes using historical data on the site enabled the company to extend the reserves by 2.1mt, adding one extra year to the mine life; increasing it to eight years at around 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).

TerraCom is also in the process of further developing this increased JORC measured resource and plans add another three to five years to the mine life.

Chairman Wal King said the reserve upgrade is significant for the Blair Athol mine.

“The measured resource upgrade is significant as it has the potential to increase the mine life for a further three to five years,” he said.

Production at Blair Athol begun in August this year.
