Birla Mt Gordon underground collapse remediation

Aditya Birla has begun work to repair the underground collapse at its Mt Gordon mine.

On 14 March the miner suspended underground operations after the collapse of the mine’s F1 vent shaft collar.

Heavy rains were behind the collapse.

Aditya has assessed the risks to the underground works from water ingress and gravel that will stop it from carrying out preparatory work to enable the recommencement of operations at Mt Gordon.

At the same time, the miner started surface excavations to facilitate remedial work on the shaft collar, with probe holes being drilled into the underground workings to eliminate any potential risks caused by perched water or gravel.

Aditya Birla Minerals have also announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer.

Umesh Goel has stepped in to replace former CFO Rajiv Gupta who has resigned.
