BHP iron ore train derailed

BHP Billiton has seen a derailment of an iron ore train on its Newman line in the Pilbara.

According to The Australian, no employees were injured or at risk during the accident on Saturday morning.

However, there was reportedly damage to the tracks, which connect its Pilbara mines to Port Hedland.

Operations were able to resume by 8pm the following Monday.

It is unknown how the incident will impact BHP’s output, with official figures unlikely to be released until July, in the miner’s fourth quarter reports.
