BHP Nickel West has awarded Coates Hire with a $25 million, five-year contract for the supply of services at the Western Australian operation.

Under the agreement, Coates Hire will provide equipment hire, tool management and maintenance, telemetry, day to day operations, short and long term hire, planned and major shutdown services as well as project works.

Coates Hire chief executive Murray Vitlich said the company had a 135-year history in Australia and in that time worked with the country’s leading mining and resources companies.

“Our work with BHP – one of Australia’s greatest companies – over the coming five years will be no different as we provide them with what they need, whenever and wherever they need it,” Vitlich said.

BHP Nickel West is an integrated mine-to-market nickel business with over 3500 employees and contractors. It includes open cut and underground mines, concentrators, a smelter and refinery in Western Australia.

Speaking at the Diggers and Dealers conference earlier this week, BHP Nickel West asset president Edward Haegel highlighted Nickel West’s position as one of the world’s major nickel sulphide provinces, set to support the world’s growing demand for nickel in batteries.

Coates Hire is an equipment hire provider part that delivers solutions such as maintenance, industrial shutdowns, temporary works and water management.
