BHP approves Orebody 24 development

 BHP Billiton have approved US$822 million for the development its Orebody 24 iron ore mine.

The new mine will have an output of 17 million tonnes per annum, with the development including the construction of an ore crushing plant, loadout facility, rail spur, and other support facilities.

Mining is scheduled to begin in the second half of next year.

Ian Ashby, BHP head of iron ore, said the Orebody 24 development is part of the miner’s larger strategy to leverage infrastructure.

The mine is located just north of Newman, in the Pilbara.
