A protestor of Whitehaven Coal’s Maules Creek coal mine has marked Halloween by dressing up in bat suit, climbing a tripod and disrupting hauls trucks leaving the company’s Tarrawonga mine.
Phil Evans, 33, is a climate campaigner with 350.org, and said he is undertaking the action to call “trick or treat” on Whitehaven Coal.
But with the company set to rail first coal from the new mine in January 2015, two months ahead of schedule, Whitehaven has said the continual, illegal stunts being carried out in the area are having little effect on its business.
At the time of publication, Evans had been in the tripod for over six hours.
