Barrick calls carbon tax manageable

Barrick Gold’s Gary Halverson has described the carbon tax cost of about US$12 per ounce for his company as “not insignificant but manageable”.

Speaking at Diggers and Dealers, the president of the gold miner’s Australia Pacific arm said the company remains focused on gold mining, despite its recent acquisition of copper miner Equinox Minerals, The West reports.

Although, he said Barrick remains opportunistic, and would consider acquisitions as they arose.

While remaining focused on gold, Halverston was optimistic about copper prices following the Equinox acquisition, stating that prices are expected to rise steadily at rates of around 3% in the coming years.
