Barminco wins Sunrise Dam gold contract

Barminco has won the underground mining contract for AngloGold Ashanti’s Sunrise Dam mine.

Worth an estimated $500 million, this is the second largest underground mining contract ever awarded in Australia, and the largest for Barminco.

The contract includes all underground mine operations including development and production.

This latest agreement comes on the back of its $60 million underground services contract for Western Area’s Spotted Quoll nickel mine.

The Sunrise Dam contract is set to run over the next five years and comes with a potential three year extension.

The mine itself poured its 5 millionth ounce this year and is currently developing the Tropicanca Gold Deposit, 330km north east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
