Ausdrill to establish underground division

Ausdrill will create a new underground mining division following its failure to acquire Barminco.
The contractor says it would consider either organically growing a new division or acquiring another underground contractor.
This comes after “Ausdrill investigated the possible acquisition of Barminco but was unable to come to terms with its owners,” the company stated.
Ausdrill managing director Ron Sayers explained that “due to the increasing level of activity [in the Pilbara region], we believe there are significant opportunities to provide further services to the industry”.
Barminco and Ausdrill operate a joint venture underground mining services company in Africa called African Underground Mining Services.
