Atlas Iron has announced it has received final approvals to commence mining at the Wodinga DSO Iron Ore project.
Mining is set to commence in early June 2010 following the completion of the final environmental approvals, with Atlas aiming to produce 6 million tonnes of iron ore per annum by December 2010, the miner said.
“To take a project from an iron ore discovery to an iron ore mine less than 18 months is simply remarkable,” Atlas Iron managing director David Flanagan said.
The miner is now well positioned to benefit from the rising demand and high iron ore prices and is ready to mobilise contractors, he added.
The Wodinga project has an exploration target of 20 to 40 million tonnes at a grade of 57%Fe to 60%Fe.
Atlas is looking to expand the project during late CY 2011.
