Kerry Sanderson has resigned from her role at Atlas Iron to become Western Australia's first female Governor.
Sanderson has held a non-executive director role at the miner since 2012.
She will formally take up the role from 20 October this year.
Speaking on her appointment, Atlas chairman David Flanagan congratulated Sanderson on the new role, adding that she had made a major contribution to the board.
"Kerry brought vast commercial experience to the Board, particularly in the area of port operations and shipping; Kerry's knowledge, experience, and insight were invaluable and will be missed," Flanagan said.
"While we are disappointed to be losing her talent, we are delighted for Kerry to have been named WA's next governor."
