Rio Tinto's Argyle diamond mine has teamed up with the Perth Mint to create a rare coin worth $8800.
Perth Mint wholesaler Neil Vance said 150 orders had already been received for the coin from overseas collectors.
Struck from 2oz of 91.67 per cent pink gold in proof quality, the high relief coin depicts a boab tree amid a Kimberley landscape at sunset- with an Argyle pink diamond embedded near the horizon to represent the setting sun.
From a limited mintage of 500, just 440 of the coins will be issued.
“The main attraction is it's very rare and it's the first time we've used Argyle diamonds in a new coin," Vance said.
Argyle Pink Diamonds manager Josephine Johnson said the coin marks a “special moment in time”.
