Aquila receives Pilbara rail approval

Aquila Resources has received approval for a rail line for its West Pilbara iron ore project.

The Federal Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPaC) gave conditional approval for the construction and operation of the rail line and associated infrastructure.

The conditions imposed, while not stated by the miner, were described as "manageable and acceptable to the project participants, and the environmental offsets requested have been agreed to".

However, the WA State Department of Environment and Conservation is yet to announce its position on the mine and rail developments.

The rail will link to the proposed Anketell Point port.
