Another quarry worker killed

A man was killed at a QLD sand quarry over the weekend.

The 25 year old Irishman Leigh O'Neil was reportedly attempting to unblock a sand crusher at a Darling Downs quarry when he fell into the machine, according to The Chronicle.

O'Neil was crushed and died at the scene.

The incident occurred at Bolzan Sand Supplies quarry at Talgai, just north of the NSW/ Queensland border and south west of Brisbane, on Saturday.

According to police, O'Neil was driving a front end loader and emptied it into a bin, after which he got out to check it after it appeared to have become blocked.

O'Neil then placed a ladder against the bin and may have fallen in while attempt to clear the blockage.

"He was found a short time later by the owner of the property," Det. Sgt. Darren Tamblyn said.

The man had only been working at the quarry for two months.

This is the second death at a Queensland quarry in as many weeks.

Last week a 21 year old Moranbah worker died after he became entangled in a conveyor belt.
