Amec Foster Wheeler win Salamanca contract

Amec Foster Wheeler’s subsidiary, MDM Technical Africa, has won a contract for the world’s only under construction uranium mine.

MDM will undertake the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for Berkeley Energia’s mine, which is the execution phase of the project during which engineering and design processes are translated into equipment procurement packages and awards to specialist subcontractors.

The FEED will be based on Berkeley’s completed DFS, with input from a number of Spanish firms.

Initial construction has begun, with re-routing of the existing electrical power line to service the project and a four kilometre realignment of an existing road to allow for the recommencement of mining of the Retortillo pit.

The Salamanca mine is slated to begin production in 2018.
