Alrosa uncovers 122 carat diamond

Alrosa has found an enormous 122 carat diamond from its well-known Jubilee pipe.

The octahedral shape stone measures 31.28 х 30.00 х 28.57 millimetres, the miner said.

“The crystal of “2 Black Sawables 3 colour” quality is transparent with moderate yellowish hue, there are small olivine, graphite and sulphide inclusions in this crystal,” the state owned miner added.

It is believed to be valued at around US$1.5 million.

In 2013 the miner found a similar 145 carat diamond at the same pipe.

The recovery of this large diamond follows on the naming of the second largest single diamond ever recovered, the stone now known as Lesedi La Rona.
