Alliance Aviation signs new contracts with BHP

Alliance Aviation has signed a new three year contract with BHP Billiton Nickel West.

Alliance already provides flights into BHP's Mt Keith and Leinster operations.

It comes as the existing contract, originally signed in 2006, reaches its expiry date for November.

This latest contract follows on the back of BHP flagging a review of its West Australian nickel businesses, which included the potential sale of part, or all, of its operations.

It is part of a wider strategy of BHP's 'next phase of simplification'.

The company said the review of its Nickel West business is consistent with a “long held practice of continually reviewing its operations”.

However, as the nickel price rises this sale may be off the table.
