Brisbane’s Advanced Initiating Systems (AIS) will be renamed BME Australia as part of a rebrand led by South African explosives company BME, AIS’s majority shareholder. The name change is expected to occur in the second quarter of this year.
AIS director and BME general manager, Australia Asia, Brad Bulow said that BME would continue to foster AIS’s reputation as a quality Australian company, known for its AXXIS digital detonation system, which broke a blasting world record (5665 detonators in a single blast) that was eventually beaten by BME in Zambia last September (6690 detonators).
“At AIS, we have become well known as the distributor of BME’s pioneering AXXIS digital detonation system,” said Bulow.
“With over three decades of growth in the explosives business, BME has innovated a broad range of solutions that are being applied across Africa and in a growing number of markets globally.
“Our position as part of the Omnia Group — which has facilitated our considerable manufacturing capacity — places us well to meet customer demands in Australia.”
BME is the leading supplier of explosives and services to the African mining industry, operating in nearly 20 countries across the continent.
