
Whilst Australia's industry is among the safest in the world, underground mining can be an intimidating job.
Here we've collected a few of the eeriest images to give you a feel of what it's like working underground.
The first three pictures are from the coal face, one of the tightest, yet most important, parts of an underground operation.
This next image is of a Sanvik LHD in action.

This final image shows workers reinforcing the tunnel at the Pike River mine, where 29 miners and contractors later passed away in the Pike River mine disaster.
