20 dead in latest Chinese coal accident

Twenty Chinese coal miners are dead and another 14 are injured after a locomotive carrying workers failed and slipped down a mine shaft.

AFP reports 34 workers were on the carriage, and the pit in question was run by Qusheng Coal Mining.

Earlier this month the Chinese Government announced it would close hundreds of coal mines across the country to help build a safer mining sector.

China has one of the worst safety records in the global mining industry, and almost 2,000 workers were killed in coal mining accidents last year.
