18,000 applicants for 1,000 mining jobs

Desperate applicants have flooded BMA with 18,000 applications for 1,100 roles on the Caval Ridge and Daunia mines near Moranbah.

CQ News reports workers for the FIFO-only mines will be sourced from a 100km radius around both Carins and Brisbane, with the majority of roles being filled from the greater-Brisbane region.

For the 250 jobs on offer around Cairns BMA received close to 8,000 applications, and for the remaining 800 jobs around Brisbane the company received around 10,000 applications.

According to CQ News BMA has declined to give exact figures on the applications, but said the response had been overwhelming.

Most of the new jobs will be awarded to skilled trades people, but a number of lower-skilled machine operator roles are also up for grabs.

Recruitment for the new positions has now closed and the new workforce is expected to be in place by mid-year.
