VALMEC wins goldfields pipeline contract

VALMEC has won the contract to build the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline in Western Australia.

The $140 million, 292 kilometre Goldfields Gas Pipeline was first announced in July last year, as part of a gas network designed to connect mines in the region to the existing Goldfields Gas pipeline via a lateral pipeline at the Murrin Murrin nickel mine, which will eventually extend past Anglo Gold's Sunrise Dam mine and onwards to the Tropicana mine.

The power stations at both mines will be modified to run on 100 per cent natural gas, while retaining diesel back up capacity.

The project, run by APA Operations, is scheduled to begin immediately and run until November 2015, VALMEC said in a company statement.

The scope of work comprises the supply, fabrication, installation, construction, and testing of the facilities.

Once the completed APA will transport gas a total of 1500 kilometres to the mines.

“We are delighted to have received this latest contract award from APA Group on this strategic Western Australian project,” VALMEC managing director Steve Dropulich said.
