Pan African Minerals $1 billion Burkina Faso Tambao
manganese mine has been approved.
The mine, which is located on the country’s border with
Niger and Mali, is believed to contain more than 100 million tonnes of
manganese and will be the largest manganese mine in the world once operational, according to Reuters.
Pan African Minerals Romanian Australian head Frank Timis explained that with this latest approval, the “project will happen in the next
three years and will require an investment of nearly $1 billion”.
While Pan African Minerals won exploration sites in 2012 it
has only now been awarded the permits.
Production at the operation is slated for around three
million tonnes annually.
It will begin producing in July, with shipments by road
kicking off in October.
