New coal appointment

THE Australian Coal Association (ACA) has announced the appointment of new executive director Ralph Hillman.

Hillman will be the new executive director of the Association after a long career in the Commonwealth Government.

Hillman has been the former Australian Ambassador for the Environment and Ambassador to the OECD, head of the Trade Development Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and is currently Industry and Government Relations at the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation executive director.

Hillman will take up his appointment on 15 August.

In announcing the appointment ACA chairman Dave Murray paid tribute to Mark O’Neill who has resigned after seven years heading the ACA and its Sustainable Development Program.

“He will be long remembered for the establishment of the COAL21 National Agenda, the $1 billion plus COAL21 RD&D Fund and his pivotal contributions to national and international groups working on the emissions reduction program,” Murray said.
